Compression Ratio

Compression ratio indicates the ratio of the combined volume within an engine cylinder and a combustion chamber, when the piston is at the bottom of its stroke as compared to the volume in the cylinder when the piston is at the top of its stroke. Higher compression ratio means more compression during combustion and more powerful engine because an engine can squeeze more mechanical energy from its air-fuel mixture.
