Distributor

Distributor is a part of the ignition system that makes and breaks the ignition primary circuit and also distributes the resultant high voltage to the proper cylinder at the correct time. It delivers electricity from the ignition coil to the distributor cap and the spark plug wires in the correct firing order. As a result, the spark plugs ignite the fuel and air mixture in each cylinder thousands of times per minute, producing the explosion that pushes the piston down in the cylinder to power the vehicle.
